Guy Heerema has held a wide variety of positions in the Information Technology profession. These range across many disciplines (e.g., developer, database administrator, system administrator, network management, data centre operations, document management, business continuity, security, helpdesk…) He has also held a range of roles within IT organizations including architect, project management, governance, policy, compliance, advisor, supervisor, manager, director and CIO. His business sector experience has been focused on Oil & Gas, with some Electricity Utility experience added recently. He has lead departments responsible for providing business services in the areas of HR & Payroll, Royalty Accounting, Finance, Exploration and SCADA operations. He has participated in various large projects & tasks including ERP implementations, data centre construction/migration and international operations.

Guy’s career started with Shell Canada Limited. The highlight of his 13 year tenure was a 2.5 year posting in Argentina. After a brief stint at PanCanadian Petroleum, he then joined the Alberta Energy Company to lead the Ecuador IT group for 2.5 years. Upon return to Canada, he joined the Alberta Electric System Operator with a mandate to rebuild the entire infrastructure that supports the critical systems supporting the Alberta electricity industry.

Guy graduated from the University of British Columbia with a double Honours B. Sc. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. He moved to Calgary in 1987 and is blessed with eight children.
